Capillary testing withdrawn
The American Company Theranos has withdrawn all but one of its tests.
Capillary samples taken by a finger-prick are becoming increasingly popular. Thernos has built a multi-billion dollar business around a revolutionary new analyser that they claims is able to do 100s of tests on a tiny sample. The hype has now been shown to have been overblown as all but one of their tests has now been withdrawn. At County Pathology we have been running finger-prick samples on our analysers that have been optimised for small samples. Typically we use 10uL per test (A drop of blood is 50uL). This has not required any huge advance in technology and we use tried and tested methods. If you would like to benefit from our home testing service please contact us.
